Bluff

Never bluff more than two opponents, and dont do it too often.
It can be useful to bluff in late position with lots of outs. A bluff might win the pot right there or get a better value if you hit on later streets.

When your bluffing its importent to know your opponents. Don't bluff against a loose player becuase there is a good chance the he's going to call you even with a gut shot draw.

Check-Raise

When you hold a good hand and it is your turn to act, check in the hopes that your opponents will bet so that you can raise when your turn comes again.

Check-raise is very useful when there is many opponents in the hand and you want to thin out the opponents, so you dont be outdrawn later in the hand.

Tilt

We all see it and we all get bad beats, its impossible to avoid. Dont screw yourself up and play like a mad man because someone got lucky. Forget that hand and concentrate on the next one.

A good thing to minimize your loss is to decide a maximum limit to lose per session.

Read your opponents

Figure out your opponents hand by noticing his style and his strategy.
Is he an aggressive or tight player, is he a callingstation.
Which startinghands does he play and from what position.
One of the most important skills in poker is the abillity to read your opponents.

Play your opponent

  • Play more hands against opponents who plays too many starthands
  • Play more hands against opponents who plays bad after the flop
  • Almost never bluff loose opponents
  • Play aggressive against tight opponents
  • Try to make loose/aggressive opponents to bluff
  • You should call raise and reraise more often against aggressive players
  • Fold against extremly tight players with a weak hand
  • Sit to the left against a maniac
  • Sit to the right against a tight opponent

Money management

A good pokerplayer can only be sure to go + - 0 after 1400 hours playing. Any time in betwen he will risk to lose.

The average for good player is about one big bet per hour ($10/hour on $5 - 10) in fixed limit on a full table.

Its very important to play on a level that your bankroll can afford, If your bankroll is 350 times bigger than the bigbet you can play without any risk going bankrupt unless you are very unlucky. But thats only if we assume your average is 1 big bet/hour.

The following table shows how big your bankroll needs to be for a certain level in fixed limit and it includes depositbonuses, and we assume you are a winning pokerplayer:
